VA SERVICE-CONNECTED DISABILITY COMPENSATION
Housebound Status
If a Veteran is service-connected at the 100% rate, and is also housebound, they may be entitled to special monthly compensation, often called SMC-S. Typically, VA considers veterans who are housebound to be those who are unable to leave their homes due to service-connected disabilities. A veteran may also be entitled to SMC-S if they have a single service-connected disability rated at 100%, and their other service-connected disabilities combine to at least 60%.
