Why is VA Accreditation Important for Florida Veterans?

Florida Veterans should look for a representative that is “Accredited” by VA to represent veterans for VA benefits. VA’s Office of General Counsel (OGC) oversees the accreditation process, and conducts a character review of individuals to ensures they are of good moral character and that attorneys are in good standing with their state and federal bar associations.  In the case of non-attorneys, VA additionally requires that they pass a written examination on VA law and procedures.  One of the most important aspects of the accreditation program is that  VA conducts oversight of the fees charged by representatives.   OGC ensures accredited individuals are charging reasonable fees that are in accordance with VA laws and regulations.   OGC also require accredited individuals regularly complete Continuing Legal Education (CLEs) credits to ensure they are knowledgeable of current laws and regulations.  OGC maintains a current list of accredited agents on their website.
