VA SERVICE-CONNECTED DISABILITY COMPENSATION

Cause of Death

A veteran’s cause of death can be service connected. Generally, to establish service connection, the veteran must have died from a service-connected illness or injury. If you are an eligible surviving spouse, child, or parent of a service member who died in the line of duty, or the survivor of a veteran who died from a service related condition, you may be eligible for a tax-free monetary benefit known as Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC).
