VA SERVICE-CONNECTED DISABILITY COMPENSATION

Aid and Attendance (A&A)

Another common example of Special Monthly Compensation is Aid and Attendance (A&A). Veterans eligible for A&A are so helpless, or so nearly helpless, that they require the regular aid and attendance of another person as a result of their service-connected disabilities. VA will look for evidence that shows as a result of a service-connected disability, the veteran is unable to dress or undress; keep themselves clean and presentable; frequently needs another individual to adjust their prosthetics or orthopedic appliances; is unable to feed themselves; unable to use the restroom by themselves; or is incapable of protecting themselves from the hazards or dangers incident to their daily environment.
